- Ford Mustang BULLITT to make its Australian debut at 2018 Motorclassica in Melbourne ahead of the 50th anniversary of the legendary Oscar-winning motion picture
- BULLITT will go on sale in October as the most powerful Mustang sold by Ford in Australia, with a run of 700 individually-numbered Fastbacks finished exclusively in Dark Highland Green with six-speed manual gearbox and gloss-black 19-inch alloy wheels
- Making its screen debut in the United States on October 17, 1968, the lead character of Bullitt was played by Hollywood icon Steve McQueen, star of films including The Magnificent Seven(1960), The Thomas Crown Affair (1967) and Le Mans (1971)
- This year, Motorclassica takes place for the ninth time; special guests including 1980 Formula One World Champion, Alan Jones, whose title-winner was the Ford-powered Williams FW07B, with Ford Performance exhibits celebrating global race programs.
“We’re so pleased that enthusiasts will be able to see Mustang BULLITT in the metal for the very first time at Motorclassica,” said Kay Hart, President and CEO, Ford Australia. “The event is a must-see, and we’re delighted to be part of what’s a cornerstone event on the automotive calendar, and a great way to introduce Mustang BULLITT to Australia.”
Motorclassica 2018 will take place over four days, from October 12-14, at the World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton, Melbourne, with 550 vehicles across 30,000 square-metres of exhibition space.
“The Ford Mustang has become one of the most collectable models in the car enthusiast’s canon and its longevity is testament to its enduring ‘cool factor’,” said Paul Mathers from Motorclassica. “Unsurprisingly, Mustang enthusiasts and Motorclassica have enjoyed a close relationship over the past nine years, which is why we are so incredibly proud to be chosen by Ford to host the Australian launch of the new Mustang BULLITT, a car that is destined to become a much desired collectable classic in the years to come.”
With 700 being offered in Australia, Mustang BULLITT is the most powerful Mustang ever offered in this country, with a 345kW/556Nm 5.0-litre V8 and six-speed manual transmission with Rev-Matching. True to the 1968 original from the film, each BULLITT is finished exclusively in Dark Highland Green, with a Fastback body that is devoid of badges. Torq-Thrust style black 19-inch alloy wheels, Red Brembo™ brake calipers and chrome window trim enhance the modern good looks of Mustang; while inside, each example carries an individually-numbered plaque, cue-ball style gear-knob and BULLITT badging.
Australian customers have made Mustang the nation’s favourite sports car, topping the sales charts in both 2016 and 17i . The Mustang, which was developed for the first time as a global model, has also been the best-selling sports car in the world for the third year in a row, topping sales charts in 2015, 2016 and 2017ii .
In April 2018, the Ford Mustang was announced a competitor in the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship. Ford Performance, DJR Team Penske and Tickford Racing Australia are working on the homologation of the Mustang for the 2019 season, which is expected to make its on-track debut at the season-opening Adelaide 500.
“This year the Mustang BULLITT is joined by a swathe of other important Australian unveilings in a display of more than 550 classics and collectables representing the very best in the country,” said Mathers.
Tickets to Motorclassica are available for purchase at the event, or online at motorclassica.com.au.
